Discussion on the Srimad Bhagavatam with Visvakarma Dasa.
The law of satiation is found on the material platform but not on the spiritual plain of existence.
On the material platform anything seen or heard a number of times becomes satiated and eventually boring.
As a young man I can remember listening to certain songs I liked over and over, until one day I was satiated
Yes, those tunes we’re no longer interesting for me to hear.
For many people watching a movie more than once is not their cup of tea. Once through then done!
This is how the law of satiation in the material world works.
Being spiritual beings, it is our constitutional position to enjoy eternally.
The soul has three properties knowledge. eternity and bliss. On the material platform we the soul are born into ignorance, temporary life and misery in this body. This nobody can deny.
Due to the law of satiation we want to find happiness through mundane sense gratification but we can never be satisfied due to this law. Many of you will not except this law but in the end the truth cannot be denied by you or any other mundane person.
Let me give you another example of a person who drinks alcohol. The first few drinks create a temporary euphoric state but as a person continues to drink, he becomes intoxicated and eventually sick in some cases dies from alcohol poisoning. This is Law of Satiation in effect on the conditioned soul.
The law of satiation does not exist on the spiritual platform of life.
Krishna God is the source of all knowledge, all eternity and all happiness and we his parts and parcels are entitled to experience the same qualities in minute quantity.
Such bliss or happiness is possible by the performance of devotional service to the supreme lord beginning with hearing, chanting and remembering the pastimes of the Supreme Being.
Such happiness is possible for the pure Devotees of the Lord and this is the secret of life.
Haridasa thakur a great devotee of lord Chaitanya would chant everyday incessantly 300000 names of Krishna without fail.
One may ask how this is possible?
The answer is when you realize who Krishna is and the transcendental nature of his holy names, you never grow satiated because there is bliss in these names, which is beyond the perception and experience of the mundane mind.
In simple terms the name of Krishna and his form are not different. Once one realizes this, he cannot continue on in the mundane world of birth and death under the material law of Satiation in the pursuit of temporary sense gratification.
I know a very rich real estate developer here in this area. We have been acquainted for over 40 years. One day he confided in me, he goes to Cuba regularly for sex with young woman there who prostitute themselves for Canadian dollars. On a four-day getaway he bragged he would have sex with 16 different young ladies on a four-day getaway from Thursday to Sunday. Something like the Epstein Island escapes for the rich and famous except they flew in a private jet to avoid public scrutiny.
Are these people satisfied by their sexual lust?
No.
Krishna explains in the Gita that material lust burns like fire and is never satisfied. Have they satisfied their material senses?
Yes, but only temporarily and my real estate friend in Hamilton is compelled to carry on in his pursuit of woman despite having 14 bouts of gonorrhea.
These days despite his millions of dollars, in his old age he has become more like a walking vegetable and can’t remember what he says from one sentence to the next.
His relentless quest for material sense enjoyment has brought him to the stage of invalid and still he can’t stop being stupid.
The devotee of the lord is diametrically opposite to the mundane man or woman.
The non-dual presence of the lord in his holy names is all attractive to his pure devotees who relish without satiation the lord’s presence dancing on the tip of his tongue. This pleasure is reserved for those who are truly serious about solving the mysteries of material life.
The material world is a place of misery Krishna tells us in the Bhagavad-Gita where repeated birth and death occur.
Repeated birth and death are due to the influence of the external time factor on the condition soul
For the liberated pure Devotie the influence of time has no bearing on his life since he is always engaged in hearing, chanting and remembering his supreme eternal Lord Krishna.
Krishna is the ocean of mercy for such a pure Devotee.
Krishna further states in the Gita,” to those who are constantly engaged in such service he gives the intelligence by which the Devotee comes to fully understand and appreciate him.
Krishna further confirms “I dwelling within the heart of the condition soul destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.”
Krishna explains the pursuit of material success and material sense gratification are born from the influence of the material modes of nature namely ignorance and passion.
Search material pleasures are like those experienced by the animals and have no permanent satisfaction. The condition soul hankers after eternal pleasure because that is our constitutional position but like a fish out of water these pleasures are illusionary and, in the end, very frustrating for the conditioned soul.
Unless one takes to the eternal service of the Lord which is our constitutional position, we cannot find happiness in material sense gratification.
What do I mean by constitutional position?
The example is given of the fish, the fish lives in the comfort of water but when he us taken out of the water he quickly dies in misery.
Similarly, the human being not serving Krishna, eventually suffers and dies much to their chagrin.
When one is reinstated by the grace of Krishna and guru into the eternal service of Krishna, he becomes truly happy.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami has taught this simple process given by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu of chanting, dancing and feasting.
Actually, Prabhupada referred to the Krishna consciousness movement as the kitchen religion.
Feasting is a big part of our spiritual practice as he sometimes stated “you can eat your way back to Godhead by taking the remnants of food offered to Krishna known as prasadam.
Prasadam means Krishna’s mercy so the process of Krishna consciousness is not subject to the laws of satiation and those who take it up with will see for themselves the transcendental results in their daily lives.
The devotees of Krishna are always eager to take up the service of the Lord and the Lord reciprocates with such Devotees by removing the doubts and confusion which occupy the mind of the conditioned soul and their struggle here in the material world to find happiness in material sense gratification.
God is never under the control of the material modes of nature as we are.
His body is the source of everything and he is the reservoir of all happiness beyond our experience.
Nobody is ever satiated by seeing chanting and hearing about Him.
This is called the law of transcendental bliss and the transcendental qualities of the Lord have no limitations and there is never any Satiation on discussing these qualities of the Lord.
By hearing about the Lord‘s past times from a pure Devotee like A.C. Bhaktivedanta swami those persons who are fortunate enough to accept him as their guru never tire of hearing the transcendental words and songs emanating from his lotus lips
He is an ocean of information and the deliverer of the most fallen.
Those who understand this and take up his mission with their wealth, intelligence, ability and ambition are the most fortunate people on this planet.
The highest perfection is to seek some service under the employment of the supreme Lord Sri Krishna and his pure devotee and our case A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami.
Thank you, all glories, to Srila Prabhupada !
