The propagation of the Holy Names to the masses.

Summary Explanation of the Chanting of Hare Krishna as heard in the release of Hare Krishna Jamaica by Visvakarma dasa / Bobby Hebert with co producer Kardi Tivali.

The chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is directly enacted from the spiritual platform, surpassing all lower states of mundane consciousness — namely sensual, mental and intellectual.

The names of Krishna, Hare and Rama are transcendental names of God, the Supreme Person. When the names are chanted, the sound incarnation of God is present. The unique nature of transcendental sound is it’s non- duality related to form and sound.

How can we understand God being omnipresent?  The name and form of an object in the material world are not the same, that  is called dual. You may call for water by name, but unless you have an actual cup of real water, your thirst will not be satisfied.

The name and form of God are of the same non-dual quality. This is one way to experience His omnipresence.  God literally incarnates in the form of His Holy Name, to dance on the tip of the tongue of his devotees who offencelessly chant.

There are 10 offences to be avoided when chanting Hare Krishna in order to obtain the maximum benefit from this practice.

  1. To blaspheme the devotees who have dedicated their lives for propagating the Holy Name of the Lord.
  2. To consider the names of demigods like Lord Shiva or Lord Brahma to be equal to or independent of the name of the Lord Vishnu.
  3. To disobey the orders of the spiritual master.
  4. To blaspheme the vedic scriptures, or scriptures in pursuance to the vedic version.
  5. To consider the glories of chanting Hare Krishna to be an imagination.
  6. To give some interpretations to the Holy Name of the Lord.
  7. To commit sinful activities on the strength of the Holy Name.
  8. To consider the chanting of Hare Krishna as one of the auspicious ritualistic activities which are offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (Karma-kanda).
  9. To instruct a faithless person about the glories of the Holy Name

  10. To not have complete faith in the chanting of the Holy Name and to maintain material attachments, even after understanding so many instructions on this matter.

It is also an offense to be inattentive while chanting.

Every devotee who claims to be Vaishnava, a servant of Krishna, must guard against these offenses in order to quickly achieve the desired success KRISHNA PREMA love of God.

It is recommended we chant 16 rounds of japa on beads everyday.
108 beads x 16 Holy Names x 16 rounds on your japa beads = 27,648 names of God chanted each day. This is the main habit of a truly successful person.

There is no need to understand the language of this maha-mantra, nor is there any need of mental speculation or any intellectual adjustment for your chanting. This transcendental mantra springs automatically from the spiritual platform, and anyone can chant this transcendental sound vibration, without any previous qualifications and dance in ecstasy upon chanting along.  A child or even a dog can take part in it. This is a non-sectarian process for self realization.  There are no restrictions for people to chant the Hare Krishna mantra based on religion, race, colour or creed. Everyone of us spiritually, are equal parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord.

He is the chief eternal being amongst all eternal beings. It is the constitutional position of the living entity to glorify God and especially through the singing of Holy Names. This is considered to be the most effective process to spiritual enlightenment as taught by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Yuga Avatara.

The chanting should be heard only from the lips of pure devotees of the Lord like A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, so that the immediate effect and benefit for the sincere seeker can be achieved. As far as possible, hearing the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra from the lips of non-devotees or imposters, imitating as devotees, should be avoided, as much as milk touched by the lips of a serpent causes a poisonous effect.

Both Krishna and Rama are names of God.  The name Krishna means the All Attractive Person and the name Rama the Source Of All Strength. Hare means the supreme pleasure potency of the Lord. This potency of Hare, when addressed, helps us in reaching the Supreme Lord by her appealing to Him for us. Our prayer should be to join the mission of Lord Chaitanya, which Srila Prabhupada has blessed us with.

In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, this is the most potent method of yoga practice for gaining God’s personal attention, the Lord within YOUR heart. He’s personally listening and taking notice of our sincere efforts to purify ourselves through this simple process of singing this mantra.

The Material world and the pursuit of sense gratification is called Maya, or illusion and is also one of the multi-potencies of the Lord.

There are three energies in the material world;  external energy,  internal energy and marginal energy.

External energy is the manifested material world before us.

Internal energy is the spiritual world.

Marginal energy is the human-being, operating in a marginal capacity, choosing between service to the external energy for sense gratification or service to Lord Chaitanya in the SKP movement which is the eternal transcendent internal energy.

When we, the marginal energy, the living entity is in contact with God through the hearing and chanting of God’s names, we become spiritually blissful, transcending us out of the seven fold miseries of material life.

The seven fold miseries are as follows: birth, death, disease, old age, the miseries of one’s own body and mind, the trouble from other species like humans, animals, bugs, insects and other entities plus the miseries from mother nature.

As we have already mentioned, these three names of God, Hare, Krishna and Rama, are the transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra. This chant is called the Great Chant For Deliverance.

The chanting is exactly like a child’s genuine cry for their mother. Our Transcendental Mother Radha (Hare) helps us in achieving the grace of our Supreme Father Krishna. Thus, Krishna reveals Himself to such a sincere devotee who chants Hare Krishna everyday as part of their daily routine. This is the secret behind the successful  implementation of this process.

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. The chanting of the Holy Names of Hare, Krishna and Rama are featured on our track, ‘Hare Krishna Jamaica’. Once again, this is recommended as the most effective method for self-realization and God realization, in this present day of quarrel and hypocrisy by Lord Chaitanya the Yuga Avatara of Kali Yuga. The transcendentally purifying benefits of the Holy Name being chanted are equally shared between both the chanter and the listener.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the most recent incarnation of Krishna, God. He appeared 500 years ago in Bengal in the form of Krishna’s devotee and in the mood of Srimati Radharani his eternal consort. He left only 8 slokas (verses) of his instructions in writing. For a devotee making spiritual progress, the slokas describe the glories of the Holy Names of the Lord and the mood they must adopt to chant.

  1. Glory to the Sri-Krsna-Sankirtana, which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death. This sankirtana movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.
  1. O my Lord, Your Holy Name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krsna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach You by Your Holy Names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
  1. One should chant the Holy Name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and should be ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the Holy Name of the Lord constantly.
  1. O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your causeless devotional service, birth after birth.
  1. O son of Maharaja Nanda (Krsna), I am Your eternal servitor, yet somehow or other I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please pick me up from this ocean of death and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet.
  1. O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing constantly when I chant Your Holy Name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end at the recitation of Your name?
  1. O Govinda! Feeling Your separation I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence.
  1. I know no one but Krsna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally.
