He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.”
-Bhagavad-Gita 2.20
Srila Prabhupada explains in the purport to this verse that the soul is sometimes called steady. While the body goes through six stages of transformation: birth, maintenance, growth, producing some effects or offspring, dwindling, and vanishing or death, the soul never changes. The soul has no birth, and therefore, has no death.
